Principles on which Agile Manifesto is based

Traditionally, agile development was considered as an alternative to traditional plan-driven project management methodologies. At that time, plan-driven methodologies were well suited for smaller projects, with limited scope of work and few variables. However, expansion of industry led to development projects becoming complex and there was a rapid need to switch to agile development practices comprehensively. Agile works on the principles of lean development focusing on effectiveness to boost the delivery of value to the end user. Hence, the increasing need of agile processes and practices laid down the agile manifesto which is based on certain principles as follows:

• Highest priority is to satisfy the needs of the customer through consistent delivery of worthy software
• Adapting to changing requirements to help maintain the customer’s competitive benefits
• Deliver software that works in the shortest timescale, from a couple of months to a couple of weeks
• Synergistic working of developers and business people throughout the project
• Develop projects around innovative individuals and giving them an environment to accurately complete the job, on time
• Encouraging face to face conversation within teams, allowing the  most effective way of conveying information
• Agile practices encourage sustainable development and the sponsors, developers and customers must be willing and able to maintain a consistent pace through the project
• Measuring progress through working software
• Being careful with the technical excellence and implementing good design for improving agility
• Self-organizing teams build the best architecture, designs and requirements
